I had my expectations before I came. Now, for sure, I can say that my experience on the farm was much better than anything I'd planned.
The hosts are sensational people in all aspects. Courteous, funny and always respected my way of being and my culture. They also took special care in my adaptation, since I'm not fluent in English and had no experience with farm activities.
I really hope to return on the farm to meet them again.
about 2 months

Judy repliedMarcelo was a pleasure to have on our farm. Very helpful, and eager to learn. Added Bonus: He is a great cook. Our hope is that he will return soon., and we are looking forward to meeting his family some day soon. Thank you again Marcelo for all your help here on the farm and for taking such good care of us.

Judy and Walter were very nice hosts. We enjoyed our time here helping on the farm in the garden and with the goats. We shared a lot of conversations and farm knowledge with each other. They were really great to us and showed us some of the local hang outs. Overall, a fantastic experience staying with Judy and Walter

From: United StatesDate: April 17, 2012   I stayed with Walter and Judy for six months from late February to Early April. It was my first Helpex work-stay and it went very well. Walter and Judy are extremely welcoming and very generous. I stayed up at the main house with Walter and Judy, as when I first arrived, there were two other helpers staying at the "Ole'  Farm House." I got to witness the wonderful Spring transformation on their many acres and helped with several projects. Walter and I set-up the large hoop green house and made good progress on planning and laying out the new birthing barn. I was particularly interested  in the care of their thirty or so goats and got to help with that. I encourage anyone who stays  with Walter and Judy to try and get out and explore the beautiful countryside and neighboring towns. I had some great bike rides and hikes. Walter and         Judy have good hearts and plenty of work for anyone who is looking to help out on a small farm.
          Take care, Isaac

From: United StatesDate: February 9, 2012   I stayed with Judy and Walter for a month in the winter. They were extremely accommodating and respected my space and privacy. I was very welcomed during my stay as they introduced me to all of their close friends and immediate family. Work was varied and consisted of wrapping soaps, off-season farmers market duties, daily feedings, goat care, some garden work, and an attempt to build the foundation for the future greenhouse. Walter has and endless skillset and Judy is always involved in a handful of tasks. I definitely learned a lot from the two of them and left with some new skills (and some great pictures!). Also, being a pottery instructor, the art studio was a big plus!!! I am so grateful for my stay and for Judy and Walter.

From: SingaporeDate: September 15, 2011  I helped on Judy and Walter's farm for a couple of weeks. I enjoyed staying with them and ate a lot while I was on their farm. There is a variety of chores to do, no fixed schedule besides feeding the animals, and downtime interspersed throughout the day depending on the task/s at hand. They go to town very regularly and I got to go with them often. I also enjoyed meeting their family and friends. The farm can always use extra hands, so make the effort and fill out the application.

From: AustraliaDate: November 12, 2010   Steve and I had such a good time with Judy and Walter. We were made to feel right at home, and by the end of two weeks felt like part of the family. We helped out with a plethora of things - dehydrating apples and pear, picking, blanching an freezing greens, goat medicating and hoof trimming, farmers market, yard sale, working in the soap and ceramics shop. Judy and Walter fed us really well, and we enjoyed our downtime with them as well - playing marbles, watching TV, or overeating at Ryans!! We can highly recommend their farm as a wonderful introduction to different facets of farming on a manageable scale, and would love to come back in the summer when it's all in full swing! Thankyou Goat Granny & Papaw!!

From: United KingdomDate: October 31, 2010We had a lovely stay with Judy and Walter and we also enjoyed meeting David who was also helping out when we were there. We did everything from trim goats hooves, hay making, cooking recipes at the farmers market and picking vegetables. It was something different all the time as they have lots of projects on the go. They also made time to show us the area and introduce us to their family and friends. We all went on a haunted hay ride which was good fun. If you want to try something different in a safe environment then this is the place for you. Take plenty of old clothes and get stuck in. Walter and Judy are a great couple and we felt as though our help was appreciated. We wil definitely keep in touch and when they get ready to travel we hope they will come and see us. Similarly, if we get chance we will be back to see them too.

From: Puerto RicoDate: October 1, 2010I spent a very pleasant two weeks volunteering with Judy and Walter with most of my work repairing goat sheds and building or repairing fence gates. I also assisted Judy with two fun Farmers Markets. And I also harvested okra a couple of days. Helping Walter prepare apples for dehydrating was especially interesting. Walter has many tools to work with and both have a vast amount of knowledge and skills which they willing share. Accommodations and meals were very good with many items from their farm. And high speed wireless Internet a big plus! Judy makes the best homemade spaghetti sauce and pot roast. And I loved the fried apple pies! An added treat were delicious meals at Judy's parents and joining Walter and his dad going out for lunch. A fun board game was "Marbles"; very entertaining. I enjoyed the stories that Judy and Walter shared of their many life's experiences; very interesting. The farm, country side and the Greeneville area is very scenic. And many things to experience in the Greeneville area. I deeply appreciate the warm hospitality they extended to me and they went out of their way to be sure I was enjoying my stay. I highly recommend a volunteer assignment with Judy and Walter as there is are many fun tasks to be involved with and they are a super nice couple. Thanks, Judy and Walter for taking such good care of me!!!

From: United KingdomDate: September 23, 2010 I enjoyed helping Judy and Walter out on their farm and would definitely go back given the opportunity. Although I regrettably could only stay for one week, I understood there are many and varied jobs to take up on their property. During my brief stay I fed the animals morning and evening, worked on repairing a barn for the goats and helped out at the Greeneville Farmers' Market which was a thoroughly enjoyable experience! Judy and Walter are very welcoming people so I can strongly recommend and vouch for them as hosts.
